Alcaraz Aims to Lead Spain to Davis Cup Success with F1 Inspiration

-

Carlos Alcaraz recently visited Monza, Italy, to catch a Formula One race.

Just two days after his loss at the US Open to Botic van de Zandschulp, Alcaraz was in Monza for the 2024 Italian Grand Prix. Meeting Matteo Berrettini there made it more special and helped him move past his disappointing New York performance.

This trip helped him regain focus, something he hopes to show in Valencia soon.

Alcaraz’s F1 Adventure:

Before the Davis Cup group stage matches, Alcaraz shared his excitement about finally seeing a Formula One race live. He had always wanted to go but found it hard due to his busy tennis schedule. His early exit from New York gave him that chance.

“It was an amazing experience, honestly. I wanted to go to Formula One a long time ago but the tennis schedule doesn’t allow us to go to a lot of events.”

“Obviously after the US Open it was a little bit disappointing for me. I tried to reset my mind as fast as I could… Once I could go to Formula One, I didn’t think too much about it. I went straight to it to watch it.”

The race itself was thrilling with Charles Leclerc winning for Ferrari, making the atmosphere electric and unforgettable for Alcaraz. Seeing how focused the drivers were inspired him greatly.

Fans might feel this trip will boost his performance in upcoming matches.

“The way that the drivers approach races is insane. The way that they are focused on every step of the warm-up, everything, it’s crazy. I tried thinking about doing the same when approaching my matches and tournaments; watching them live was incredible.”

Alcaraz now aims to bring this newfound focus into Spain’s Davis Cup Finals campaign in Malaga later this year. With him on their side, Spain has high hopes but needs an unwavering Alcaraz.

“Well I had a few days after every tournament but probably the bad thing [in tennis] – and the good thing as well – is we have no time to relax and think about it. At some points I really want more time off.”

“But at other points I prefer not dwelling on things too much; just keep going and focus on what’s next. Let’s say I’ve had no time yet this summer.”

What do you think? Will this experience help him perform better?
