Alcaraz Aims to Shield Brother from Rising Hype

-

Carlos Alcaraz‘s younger brother, Jaime, recently caught the internet’s attention with a tennis video that went viral.

Alcaraz has a tight-knit family, including three brothers. He often shares how much he values spending time with them when he’s home.

Although he wishes he could be in Spain more often, his busy tennis schedule keeps him away. The long season makes him tired , and sometimes he even skips tournaments to rest.

Pressure on Jaime

Currently playing in Saudi Arabia at the Six Kings Slam Exhibition, Alcaraz continues to impress. Some might find it odd he’s participating after complaining about his hectic schedule. However, Taylor Fritz defended him by pointing out that exhibitions differ from ATP Tour events.

In his first match of the event against Holger Rune, Alcaraz showed significant improvement since his unexpected loss at the US Open to Botic van de Zandschulp. After defeating Rune, questions arose about Jaime’s viral video. Although proud of his 13-year-old brother’s skills, Alcaraz worries social media might put unnecessary pressure on him.

“I just want all the people or all the social media to just leave him alone because he plays well but it’s not the best,” Carlos said. “So for me, I’m a little bit worried for the people who are around him during the tournament that they’re gonna go to watch him because he’s my brother and then he’ll probably put pressure on himself.”

Fans might wonder if this pressure will affect Jaime’s love for tennis.

“Yeah he plays well,” Carlos continued. “He’s getting to a really good level. But honestly there are a lot of people around… saying that he’s going to be similar to his brother and I don’t really like that you know in that way.”

Despite these concerns, Carlos is committed to supporting Jaime as he grows as a player and faces any challenges along the way.

“So let’s see how he’s gonna handle it,” Carlos remarked confidently. “I’ll be there for him for sure… hopefully one year I’ll play against him.”

Interestingly enough, Jaime even sports a haircut like Carlos’, which their mom finds amusing: “His haircut I hear because I don’t spend too much time at home… it’s funny and hilarious.”

What do you think? Should young athletes face such pressures?
