Carlos Alcaraz believes winning at Queen’s last year was key to his Wimbledon victory.
When he first stepped onto the grass at Queen’s, Alcaraz had little experience and wasn’t feeling too confident. But after a few wins, he started to enjoy playing on grass and felt more sure of himself.
After beating Alex de Minaur in the final , Alcaraz believed he could win Wimbledon. He then went on to defeat Novak Djokovic in the final, claiming his second major title.
Building Confidence:
Alcaraz feels that without his win at Queen’s Club, his Wimbledon success wouldn’t have been possible. He shared this thought with the LTA recently.
“It was great winning Queen’s, my first tournament on grass. It was a really special one. I would say if I didn’t win Queen’s, I would not have been able to win Wimbledon. So it was a great run over there and a special win for me.”
Fans might think it’s amazing how one victory can change everything for an athlete.
A year later, he’s still very confident about playing on grass. His game seems perfect for this surface since winning Wimbledon is proof enough.
“I love playing on grass. I think my game is very well-suited for grass. I want to play aggressive all the time. I want to find the net in every point. Drop shots, slices. So I think that’s my style and that’s the way that I enjoy the game.”
This year, he’s back at Queen’s to defend his title after winning another major at Roland Garros.
