Alcaraz: Avoiding Highlight Shots to Prevent Disaster

-

Carlos Alcaraz loves playing tennis, but sometimes he gets a bit carried away.

He always has a big smile on his face while playing, which is refreshing to see. His love for the game is evident and it’s clear that tennis is his passion.

However, Alcaraz can get too caught up in the moment. He often goes for flashy shots, especially when it matters most.

Alcaraz’s Play Style:

During his semi-final match at Wimbledon 2024 against Daniil Medvedev, he tried an unnecessary drop shot instead of a simple overhead. He won the match in four sets but was asked about this risky move afterward.

“Sometimes I have to go for the effective one rather than the other options. Sometimes I do it because I feel so nervous, and it’s the kind of thing that relaxes me. Because I’ve got a smile on my face doing disaster sometimes.”

Recently, he’s been more disciplined with his shots. At Roland Garros, he focused on winning rather than showing off and clinched the trophy.

Fans might think this playful style adds excitement to his matches.

Yet, he’s still likely to attempt those ‘highlight’ shots in future games. Even at Wimbledon so far, he’s had shaky starts but managed to pull through comfortably in the end.

Against Medvedev again, he felt confident enough to try risky shots. But facing Novak Djokovic in the final could be different; mistakes may cost him dearly.

“In that moment I was feeling really calm. I was feeling that I can do these kind of shots. I have the confidence that when I hit these shots, I think they’re going to go in. Sometimes as I said, it’s a disaster. But it helps me a lot to relax, smile, and have fun on the court. But sometimes it’s difficult to do the simple shots.”

What do you think? Should Alcaraz tone down his flashy moves or keep them coming?
