Alcaraz Feels Pain After Second Win at Shanghai Masters

-

Carlos Alcaraz felt some aches after his second win at the 2024 Shanghai Masters.

Before last year, he hadn’t played in the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 because it was canceled from 2020 to 2022 due to COVID-19, and before that, he wasn’t on the ATP Tour. Last year, he made it to the fourth round for the first time. This year, he reached that stage again by defeating Wu Yibing.

In 2023, Alcaraz arrived in Shanghai feeling fresh after a semi-final loss at the China Open against Jannik Sinner. However, this time around is different as he came straight from winning Beijing’s title. Initially set to play just two days later, both finalists got a scheduling break and advanced to the fourth round while others were still in earlier matches.

Alcaraz’s Physical Strain:

Playing so much tennis took its toll on Alcaraz’s body. He mentioned feeling some pain but reassured everyone it’s normal for players. “Well, I’m feeling great,” he said. “Honestly, I’m feeling some pain in some part of the body… we have to deal with it.”

Sinner also shared his own fatigue from their China Open final matchup. They play differently; Sinner had longer rallies and dropped a set in Shanghai which might explain why he’s more tired than Alcaraz.

Fans might think it’s amazing how these players push through despite exhaustion!

Although not as worn out as Sinner, Alcaraz was eager for a day off since arriving from Beijing without rest: “So, I’m just feeling great… happy to have a day off… be ready for the next round.”

He will face either Ugo Humbert or Gael Monfils next and has an edge since they haven’t played yet while he’s already rested over 24 hours.
