Alcaraz Needs 20 Years to Break Djokovic’s Grand Slam Record

-

Carlos Alcaraz dreams of matching Novak Djokovic‘s 24 Grand Slam titles, but Paul McNamee doubts it will happen soon.

McNamee often praises Djokovic and rarely criticizes him. He believes Djokovic is the greatest tennis player ever, highlighting his 24 Grand Slam wins as proof.

Even though Alcaraz aims high , McNamee doesn’t see him reaching 24 Slams quickly. Alcaraz has already bagged four majors by 21, a faster pace than Djokovic at that age. Fans might wonder if this young star can keep up the momentum for years to come.

Challenges Ahead:

Despite his early success, Alcaraz needs to stay on top of his game for many years to match Djokovic’s record. McNamee voiced his doubts in an interview with SportKlub, stating that while it’s technically possible for Alcaraz to achieve this feat, it’s improbable due to the long career span required—about two decades.

“It will take 20 years for someone like Alcaraz to break Novak’s Grand Slam record – it’s not impossible, but it’s unlikely. So, in twenty years, Novak will be talked about as the greatest of all time. Forget all personal affinities; his biography is the greatest.”

McNamee also argued that Djokovic’s Olympic win solidified his status as the GOAT (Greatest of All Time). “An argument could be made that the Olympics are not that important,” he said. “But I don’t think so; I think they were very important, especially for people who claimed that Novak was not the GOAT. It was definitely decided in Paris who is the GOAT.”

“Personally,” he added, “I never called him the greatest until the Olympics; I said everyone should finish their careers first. But the gold at the Olympics cemented Novak’s status already now.”

He praised Djokovic’s performance: “An enormous success—not only because of the gold but also how he got it—playing a fantastic match against an outstanding tennis player like Alcaraz.”

What do you think? Can Alcaraz reach those heights?
