Controversies and Comebacks:

Last year, after losing to Djokovic at Roland Garros due to cramping, Alcaraz went to Ibiza. Some people didn’t like this decision. They thought it might affect his career negatively.

However, Alcaraz proved them wrong by coming back stronger and beating Djokovic at Wimbledon shortly after. Fans might think it’s cool how he balances fun and work so well.

This year, after winning Roland Garros against Zverev with scores of 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, he partied again in Ibiza. He also beat Djokovic again at Wimbledon with scores of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(4).

Alcaraz explained that celebrating helps him avoid feeling like a “slave to tennis.”

“Well,” he said, “I am very clear that in the end people also work for something… People work to allow themselves certain things and then enjoy them with their people.”

“I am here living a dream,” he continued. “For me it is crazy to be able to play these types of tournaments… but I also want time for myself.”

Taking breaks from tennis seems important to him. He finds these getaways fundamental for recharging his energy.

“Those little getaways to Ibiza,” Alcaraz said, “two or three nights with friends… are very necessary to then perform and come back to the court with batteries charged.”

What do you think about athletes taking breaks?
