Main Highlights:

Many were surprised that Alcaraz won against Fritz so easily. Afterward, he was asked about being called “Fed05,” comparing him to Roger Federer‘s dominant season in 2005. However, Alcaraz humbly dismissed these comparisons.

“I’m too far from that level. I’m too far. Hopefully one day, but I mean, it’s going to be impossible. So they have to change my name because ‘Fed 05’ is going to be forever him.”

Even though Alcaraz contributed significantly to his team’s success, he didn’t take all the credit. He acknowledged Alexander Zverev’s crucial role in their victory.

Fans might think this shows how humble and team-oriented Alcaraz is.

Zverev’s comeback win over Tiafoe was essential as it allowed Alcaraz to face Fritz eventually. This made Zverev’s performance just as important as any other during the event.

“It’s been a really tough one. I’m going to say it; we almost lost. But Sascha [Zverev] came with really good tennis and gave me the chance to win the Laver Cup.”

“The first set I was there supporting, watching it live. It’s really difficult to watch the matches from outside.”

The match could have gone either way since Tiafoe had a break in hand after winning the first set and was close to taking home both the match and tournament .

Nevertheless, Zverev managed to stay focused and helped turn things around for Team Europe who were trailing behind after Day Two.

“And then I tried to stay away a little bit… Obviously I was watching on TV inside the locker room… The nerves were there… But I’m really happy that Sascha won in the end and gave me another chance.”
