Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Alexander Zverev have created a gap between themselves and other players on the ATP Tour, says Andrea Petkovic. This trio ended the year as the top three in the ATP rankings. Sinner holds the No. 1 spot, followed by Zverev at No. 2, and Alcaraz at No. 3, though some find these rankings debatable.
Alcaraz clinched victories at both the French Open and Wimbledon this year but still ranked below Zverev. Roger Federer’s former coach believes this is due to a “glitch in the system” that calculates rankings.
Despite surpassing Alcaraz in ranking, Zverev remains focused on his goals. He admits that both Alcaraz and Sinner are ahead of him because they captured all Grand Slam titles in 2024 . Zverev aims to win his first major title in 2025.
Name | Age | Points | Stats 2024 |

Ranking Dynamics:
Sinner had an outstanding year with wins at the Australian Open and US Open for his first Grand Slam titles. He also triumphed at the ATP Finals in Turin, led Italy to victory in the Davis Cup, and secured three Masters 1000 titles throughout the season.
Zverev didn’t win a major but claimed two Masters 1000 titles at the Italian Open and Paris Masters. He came close to winning his first Grand Slam title during a thrilling French Open final against Alcaraz.
Alcaraz, Sinner, and Zverev consistently played exceptional tennis all season long while Djokovic’s performance dipped slightly; however, he achieved his main goal by winning Olympic gold before heading into 2024.
Fans might wonder if anyone can challenge their dominance next year.
Taylor Fritz was runner-up at both the US Open and ATP Finals while Daniil Medvedev took Sinner to five sets during their Australian Open final match-up; yet neither can argue having as remarkable a year as our top trio did!
Petkovic highlighted this disparity during an episode of Rennae Stubbs Podcast by pointing out how much higher these top three players’ ranking points are compared to others below them:
“I was looking at top five today,” she said.”Taylor is No .4 , Daniil Medvedev is No .5 , they’re around roughly about five thousand points each.”
“And then Carlos & Sascha hover near seven thousand points whereas Jannik nearly reaches twelve thousand! So yes indeed – Carlos Sascha & Jannik have set themselves apart from everyone else.”
“The numbers speak volumes: there lies two-thousand-point difference between Carlos versus Taylor/Daniil…equivalent essentially towards winning one slam tournament whilst simultaneously seeing early exits from either Carlos/Sascha (which won’t happen). That’s significant!”
As we look ahead into potential challengers for next year’s dominance – it becomes difficult predicting who might rise amongst them come time again when competition heats up once more come start-of-season preparations begin anew…
