Alcaraz Struggles With Motivation Due to Packed Schedule

-

Carlos Alcaraz has often discussed the challenges of a long tennis season.

The tennis schedule is demanding and many players, including Alcaraz, have voiced their concerns. He frequently talks about how tough it is to stay motivated with such a packed calendar.

During the 2024 Laver Cup, Alcaraz once again expressed his frustration. He doesn’t like how the calendar keeps getting longer, making it harder for players. But it seems like no one is listening to him.

Impact of an Expanding Calendar:

The schedule keeps growing because money drives decisions in tennis . This affects players in many ways: they get tired, their careers might not last as long, and staying motivated becomes harder. Alcaraz has been open about these struggles, which not many players discuss.

>”Well, honestly it is difficult. I mean, sometimes I didn’t feel motivated at all. It is a difficult moment. As I said many times, you know, the calendar is so tight, a lot of tournaments, no days off or not as much days off as I want.”

Fans might think it’s unfair that players have to deal with this.

>”Sometimes I really want to take some days for myself that I can’t because I have to practice, I have to travel, I have to—you know—the jet lag sometimes when you’re traveling around the world.”

Alcaraz admits there are times he doesn’t even want to go to tournaments because he’d rather be at home with family or friends.

>”So sometimes you don’t want to go to tournaments; I’m not gonna lie. I’ve felt this a few times already—that I don’t want to go because I’d rather stay home with my family or friends—and then I have to find the motivation just to go and put on the right face in practice and matches.”

It’s normal for anyone—athletes included—to struggle with motivation now and then.

Even though Alcaraz loves playing tennis and being on court, there are other things that can seem more important on some days. Fatigue also plays a big role.

>”I’m a business guy. I always want to win every match that I play but as I’ve said many times before—my best tennis shows up when I’m smiling and enjoying myself on court—and sometimes it’s hard to find that rhythm or good feeling.”

He tries his best by focusing on his team and family while aiming for top rankings.

>”So—I mean—I want to be focused on my team and my family and try my best in every practice session and match—to stay at the top of the rankings—I think that’s the best way to keep motivated.”

What do you think? Is it fair for players like Alcaraz?
