Alcaraz Targets Australian Open Win for Career Slam

-

Carlos Alcaraz is dreaming big and aiming for the Australian Open in 2025.

Already a proud owner of four Grand Slam titles, Carlos kicked off his major wins with the US Open in 2022. Last year, he snagged Wimbledon, and this year he added two more to his collection. Yet, one of those was a repeat as he secured another Wimbledon title after his first victory at Roland Garros. Now, only one trophy eludes him: the Australian Open.

Completing a Career Grand Slam is no small feat. In tennis history, just ten women and eight men have won all four major tournaments. In recent times, only three players have managed it: Roger Federer was first among them, followed by Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic—who’s done it multiple times! Before these legends, Rod Laver and Andre Agassi also achieved this rare accomplishment.

Alcaraz’s Ambitious Goal:

Alcaraz wants to join this elite group of tennis greats. His next shot at glory will be at the Australian Open. He shared his thoughts before playing Ben Shelton at The Garden Cup exhibition in New York City .

“I’m sure I’ll be the Australian champion sooner or later,” he declared confidently after defeating Shelton. Fans might think it’s bold but exciting to see such determination from him!

After his win, Alcaraz reiterated on Tennis Channel that capturing the Australian Open is a top priority for him next season: “The only Grand Slam that I miss is Australian Open… Hopefully in 2025.”

He knows many players work hard for such achievements but believes setting high goals will help him succeed: “A lot of players who’re working really really hard… I have to put big goals on myself.”

Before heading into the 2025 tournament without participating in any ATP events like Jannik Sinner or Novak Djokovic —he’ll engage in charity matches instead.

What do you think? Can Alcaraz conquer Australia?
