Germany has secured a spot in the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8, but Zverev won’t be there.
The event will take place in Malaga from November 19th to 24th, marking the last tournament of the year. Despite his past involvement, Zverev is skipping this one.
Zverev’s participation in the Davis Cup has been inconsistent. Sometimes he plays a lot, other times not at all . He prefers focusing on his singles career and has criticized the current Davis Cup format, saying it’s not like the real thing he used to enjoy.

Reasons Behind Zverev’s Absence:
In recent years, Zverev hasn’t played much in the Davis Cup. His last appearance was against Switzerland in February of last year; he won one match and lost another. The main reason for his absence now seems to be his packed schedule and the number of matches he’s already played this year.
He recently commented on how tough the tennis calendar is, agreeing with other players who have said it’s too long. This year alone, he’s already played 75 matches—just eight fewer than last year’s total of 83 matches, which was his highest ever.
Fans might think it’s smart for him to skip it and save energy for other tournaments.
Zverev still plans to compete in several big events like the Shanghai Masters, Paris Masters, Vienna Open, and Swiss Open in Basel. Plus, he’ll play at least three more matches at the ATP Finals. If he participates fully in these events, he’ll likely surpass his previous record for most matches played in a year.
After such an exhausting season playing more matches at an event he doesn’t enjoy isn’t appealing to him. When asked about it at the Laver Cup, he simply replied: “I don’t know.”
Shortly after that comment came out, Germany announced its team lineup without Zverev: Jan Lennard Struff, Yannick Hanfmann, Tim Puetz, and Kevin Krawietz will represent Germany instead. If some games were held in Germany maybe Zverev would have joined them as shown by his recent participation in Laver Cup.
