Andy Murray’s Surprising Post-Retirement Weight Loss

-

Andy Murray lost weight after retiring from tennis.

Most athletes gain weight when they stop playing, but Murray did the opposite. He had some playful chats with his wife about staying fit, yet retirement fun got in the way of his gym plans.

Murray had promised to keep working out post-retirement. He wanted to stay healthy and active, just like during his career. But things didn’t go as planned . After a few days in the gym, he went back home to Scotland and hasn’t returned since.

Unexpected Weight Loss:

“I haven’t been to the gym for five weeks. I told my wife I’d stay in shape, but she said: ‘Oh, if you’re just going to play golf, I don’t want that’. I replied: ‘No, no, I’ll hit the gym and stay fit’.”

Fans might find this surprising because they expected him to stick with his promise.

“I worked hard at the gym for three out of four days after stopping tennis,” he shared. “Then I went on holiday in Scotland and haven’t been back since. It’s been five weeks without hitting the gym.”

The weight loss was quite noticeable for Murray. He realized it happened because he needed fewer calories now that he’s less active. Without sports drinks loaded with calories and sticking mostly to water and coffee, his calorie intake dropped significantly.

“I don’t know if it’s my appetite or what,” he said. “I used to drink a lot of sports drinks full of calories; now it’s just water and coffee.”

“So I think it’s fewer calories and probably muscle loss,” he added. “I’ve lost about 11 or 12 pounds—it’s a lot! I thought I’d gain weight instead.”

Time will tell if Murray gets back into his old shape or continues enjoying life on the golf course .

What do you think? Will he return to form?
