Becker Denies Djokovic Accepting Alcaraz Superiority

-

Boris Becker firmly denied saying Novak Djokovic has accepted Carlos Alcaraz‘s dominance.

Recently, Ivan Ljubicic mentioned a private chat with Becker, who once coached Djokovic during his peak years. Together, they clinched six major titles and Djokovic achieved his career Grand Slam at the 2016 Roland Garros.

Becker helped Djokovic reclaim the World No. 1 spot from Rafael Nadal but their partnership ended in 2016. Despite parting ways, they stayed close friends, with Djokovic supporting Becker during his prison time in 2022 .

Djokovic’s Alleged Resignation

Fans might find it surprising that Ljubicic claimed Djokovic had given up on challenging Alcaraz. He said Becker told him that Novak had “practically accepted Alcaraz’s superiority,” something he never did with Rafa or Roger.

Ljubicic believes a shift is happening soon as Federer is retired and Nadal may not play beyond 2024. Meanwhile, Djokovic has been battling injuries like an elbow issue and a torn meniscus this season.

Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in the last two Wimbledon finals, including a straight-sets win recently. As of now, Djokovic hasn’t won any title this year—the longest he’s gone without one since 2005.

Becker denied making such remarks when asked by fans to clarify Ljubicic’s statements. He insisted only his direct words should be trusted: “Never said it!” and “Unless you hear it coming from me directly, never believe what third parties speak about me…”

Even though Becker refuted the claim, Djokovic admitted he wasn’t at the same level as Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner after losing at Wimbledon. Fans might think it’s tough for him right now but also hopeful for his comeback.

Djokovic remains optimistic about turning things around with four months left in the season. He’s eyeing an Olympic gold medal next week and still has four Masters tournaments plus the US Open to compete in. If he makes it to the ATP Finals, he could add to his record seven titles there.

What do you think? Can Djokovic bounce back?
