Stan Wawrinka is set to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics after receiving a wild card from the Swiss Olympics Team.
At 39, this will likely be Wawrinka’s last Olympic appearance. He won gold in doubles with Federer at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Twelve years ago, he lost to Andy Murray in the first round of the London Games and missed Tokyo due to a foot injury.
This season has been tough for him , winning only four matches on clay and dropping to 93rd in rankings as of June 28th.
Wawrinka’s Wild Card Entry
Despite his low ranking, Wawrinka got one of two wild cards reserved for former Grand Slam and Olympic champions. The singles tournament can host up to 64 players.
Name | Age | Points | Stats 2024 |

“Wildcard for Wawrinka – Swiss Olympic Team grows to over 80 athletes. Wawrinka was selected today along with 23 other athletes in tennis, cycling, beach volleyball, artistic gymnastics, golf and equestrian sports.”
Fans might feel excited yet nostalgic about seeing him play one last time at such a big event.
Viktorija Golubic will also represent Switzerland at the Olympics. She moved up due to many higher-ranked players withdrawing. Some Swiss players missed out because each country can only send its top four ranked players within the Top 56.
The Paris Olympics will take place at Roland Garros—familiar ground for Wawrinka since he’s won there before. He plans to prepare by playing in the ATP 250 event in Gstaad.
