Djokovic Can’t Beat Sinner Due to ‘Mike Tyson Mentality’

-

Former tennis star Adriano Panatta recently shared his thoughts on Jannik Sinner, saying Novak Djokovic can’t beat him because of Sinner’s strong mindset.

Sinner just won his second Grand Slam title this year, making him the second player in 2023 to win two majors. This is the first time since 2017 that Djokovic hasn’t won a major, with Alcaraz and Sinner each taking two titles.

Sinner dominated the hard courts, clinching both the Australian Open and US Open titles. He even defeated Djokovic on his way to one of those wins. Next year will be intriguing as Sinner aims to continue his hard-court success while Djokovic will try to reclaim his dominance.

Panatta’s Insights:

Djokovic doesn’t want another year without a major win, but beating Sinner seems tough right now. Panatta believes it’s almost impossible for Djokovic due to Sinner’s aggressive approach to tennis.

On the La Telefoneta podcast, Panatta compared Sinner to Mike Tyson because both are relentless in their sports. “Sinner is the only player who comes onto the court and doesn’t wait,” he said. “I think of Tyson in the first matches when he came in and hit until the other fell to the ground.”

Fans might feel excited about these comparisons; it shows how intense Sinner’s game has become.

Sinner’s powerful play can overwhelm opponents. Even though Djokovic is skilled at handling pressure, he struggled against Sinner last year.

Although Djokovic did manage a win over Sinner at the ATP Finals, his performance has dipped since then while Sinner’s has only improved.

According to Panatta, Alcaraz is perhaps the only player who can challenge Sinner when he’s at his best. “This is what Alcaraz does when he is in form,” Panatta noted. “I don’t even think Djokovic can do it… maybe two sets out of three, not three out of five.”

What do you think? Can anyone stop Sinner?
