Novak Djokovic is set to compete in his fifth Olympics.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will start next month, with the men’s tennis singles tournament running from July 27th to August 4th. Sixty-four players will vie for gold, silver, and bronze medals.
The Serbian Olympic Committee confirmed Djokovic’s participation in Paris at the end of July, finally putting an end to fans’ worries. The 37-year-old had knee surgery after pulling out of Roland Garros before his quarterfinal match.
Djokovic kept his knee injury a secret during the clay-court season. He only disclosed it after worsening the injury during a five-set victory over Francisco Cerundolo in the French Open’s fourth round.

“#TeamSerbia for #Paris2024 got new representatives and now has 96 members. Tennis players Novak Đoković and Dušan Lajović fulfilled the requirements according to the ATP ranking and confirmed their appearance at the Olympic Games.”
Olympic Dreams:
It’s unlikely Djokovic will play any official tournaments before the Olympics. His surgeon believes he won’t make it to Wimbledon, which starts on July 1st. This means no addition to his 24 Grand Slams or a chance to tie Roger Federer’s record of eight titles at Wimbledon for another year.
An Olympic gold medal is one major accolade missing from Djokovic’s impressive resume, and at age 37, this might be his best shot at winning it. Some analysts think his quick decision for surgery shows how eager he is to compete in Paris next month.
Fans are probably excited but nervous about this news.
Djokovic won a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 but lost in Tokyo three years ago while competing against Pablo Carreno Busta for another bronze. This year, he joins Dusan Lajovic as one of two Serbian men who have qualified for this prestigious event.
What do you think? Is this Djokovic’s golden opportunity?
