Djokovic Discusses Challenging Lifestyle Away From Family

-

Novak Djokovic admits that while his life looks fun and exciting, being away from family is tough.

In the early days of their careers, athletes often enjoy traveling to new places, meeting people, and experiencing different cultures. But as they grow older and start families, their priorities shift.

For Djokovic, who has been in the game for two decades, the thrill of visiting cities like Paris or New York has faded. Now it’s more about tennis than sightseeing.

Life on the Road:

With a family of his own—two kids named Stefan and Tara—traveling means missing out on precious moments with them. Currently competing in China at the 2024 Shanghai Masters, it might seem like he’s living the dream with photo shoots on the Great Wall and sponsor events.

Fans might think his life is all glitz and glamor but balancing these activities with tennis isn’t easy. During a press conference in Shanghai, he was asked how he manages everything.

“Well, I mean, we all have different routines…what works for one maybe doesn’t work for another person,” he said. Yet quickly shifted focus to what many don’t see—the time spent away from loved ones like his wife Jelena and their children.

“I try to balance things out…it’s very challenging,” Djokovic shared honestly. “I miss my family when I’m on the road.” Despite this struggle between passion for tennis and longing for home life support from those closest keeps him going.

Still grateful for his opportunities worldwide Djokovic acknowledges how lucky he is despite being apart from family sometimes: “I’m more than lucky…to have all these achievements.”

“So I try to remind myself during tough times…of what matters most,” reflecting on connections with others while striving daily towards becoming better versions of ourselves—a simple yet profound formula indeed!

What do you think? Is it worth it?
