Djokovic Favored to Win 2025 Australian Open: McNamee

-

Novak Djokovic is expected to win his 11th Australian Open in 2025, according to a former tennis legend.

If Djokovic wins next year, it would be his 25th Grand Slam title. This milestone holds significant historical importance.

His clothing sponsor, Lacoste, has already hinted at merchandise ready for this occasion.

Historical Implications:

Winning the 25th major would make Djokovic the top player ever in terms of Grand Slam titles, surpassing Margaret Court’s record of 24. Given her controversial past remarks, many tennis fans would welcome seeing her name removed from the top spot.

For Djokovic and his supporters, beating an Australian on home soil would be a poetic victory considering his complex history with Australia. It’s like a sequel to a movie about him winning this year’s Olympics.

Djokovic is always among the favorites in Melbourne due to his stellar track record there. His Olympic performance showed he still has what it takes; now it’s just about delivering on the court.

By January, any lingering emotions from Paris should be behind him. Paul McNamee believes Djokovic will be the top favorite to win and even considers him part of a new ‘Big Three’ alongside Sinner and Alcaraz.

“Oh, of course! There is a new Big Three – Djokovic, Sinner and Alcaraz. I would say that Novak is still the favourite in Australia to win his 11th title. I think Novak is No 1 in Melbourne.”

Given Djokovic’s history in Australia, this isn’t surprising. He has consistently dominated most of his opponents there.

McNamee also discussed Djokovic’s US Open match against Alexei Popyrin, noting that while Popyrin played well, winning gold at the Paris Olympics had exhausted Djokovic significantly.

Fans might wonder if retirement is near for Djokovic but McNamee doesn’t see it happening soon despite some speculations otherwise.

“Here, Alexei Popyrin played brilliantly, but it is clear how much winning the gold drained Novak. Apart from Australia, I think he is also the favourite at Wimbledon. If he doesn’t win a Slam next year that question [of retirement] will be asked.”

“On the other hand,” McNamee added thoughtfully “it’s also deeply personal when someone retires.” He mentioned Andy Murray as an example who probably played too long but wanted to continue playing anyway: “Personally,” he concluded “I think Novak will play all next year and then decide.”

So what do you think? Will Novak clinch that historic title?
