Novak Djokovic recently shared an apology with his fans for not participating in the 2024 Paris Masters. His focus has shifted over the years, now prioritizing Grand Slams and representing Serbia above other tournaments.
Despite this, he occasionally joins exhibition matches; one of the latest was in Saudi Arabia at the Six Kings Slam, featuring stars like Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. Djokovic faced Jannik Sinner in the semifinals but lost, leading to a final match against Nadal.
Their rivalry is legendary , though Nadal considers Roger Federer his greatest opponent. Regardless of whom they see as their biggest rival, Djokovic and Nadal have immense respect for each other. After their last match together, Djokovic gave a heartfelt tribute to Nadal, who reciprocated with gratitude.

Djokovic’s Future Plans:
Djokovic plans to attend Nadal’s final event at the Davis Cup Finals next month. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz might play doubles with Nadal there too. Fans might wonder if this marks a new chapter for Djokovic or just a temporary change.
As of now, it’s uncertain if Djokovic will participate in any more tournaments before year’s end. He won’t defend his Paris Masters title or play at the Belgrade Open either. This decision could affect his standing for the ATP Finals since he’s currently sixth but may drop outside the Top 8 based on others’ performances.
Interestingly enough, even if he qualifies for year-end events like ATP Finals, he might skip them altogether. In past statements, he hinted that such tournaments aren’t his priority anymore.
Even though skipping Masters-1000 events isn’t new for him, Djokovic still expressed regret on social media about missing Paris this year:
“Unfortunately, I won’t be playing @rolexparismasters this year…”
The organizers hope he’ll return next year because of how much excitement he brings to their event; however, given his current schedule choices late into his career—nothing’s certain.
Fans were probably hoping he’d make an exception since it’s possibly their last chance seeing him at Accor Arena before moving venues next time around—but alas! Nonetheless—with players like Sinner and Alcaraz lined up—the tournament promises excitement!
What do you think about these changes?
