Novak Djokovic is set to return to the Top 2 in the ATP Rankings after Carlos Alcaraz‘s early exit at the Cinch Championships.
Last year, Djokovic had an amazing season, winning three out of four Grand Slam titles and holding the number one spot for a long time. This year hasn’t been as great for him; he didn’t win any major titles and lost many points.
After Roland Garros, Djokovic lost his top ranking because he couldn’t defend his 2000 ATP points from last year and was overtaken by Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz took over the number two spot with his Roland Garros victory, pushing Djokovic out of the Top 2 for the first time since January 2023. But this change didn’t last long.

Djokovic’s Return to Top 2
Djokovic will climb back to number two next Monday, just before Wimbledon begins. This shift happened because Alcaraz didn’t have a big lead over Djokovic and lost early at Queen’s Club.
Fans might think this news is exciting because it shakes up the rankings right before a major tournament.
Last year, Alcaraz won Queen’s Club and earned 500 ATP points, which was more than his lead over Djokovic. However, losing to Jack Draper meant losing most of those points, allowing Djokovic to reclaim his position ahead of Wimbledon.
Next week’s rankings will show Djokovic with 8,360 points and Alcaraz with 8,130 points. Both are over 1,000 points ahead of Alexander Zverev but still far behind Sinner who has more than 9,400 points and could add more at Halle Open.
Rankings don’t worry Djokovic too much; however, being in the Top 2 means he might avoid playing against Alcaraz or Sinner until later stages in tournaments like Wimbledon.
