Novak Djokovic is cutting back on his tennis schedule and won’t play as many tournaments in 2025. He’s not retiring, but he’s focusing on other important things in life besides tennis. Even if he were younger, playing every event would be too much, so it makes sense for him to slow down.
He’s accomplished almost everything he could in tennis, especially after winning the Olympic Gold in Paris this year. Now, smaller events don’t hold the same importance for him. Instead, he’s all about representing his country and competing at Grand Slams because those are what really matter to him.
In a recent chat with ATP before heading to the Shanghai Masters in 2024, Djokovic shared that his main focus remains on slams and playing for Serbia. He said he’ll still play some Masters events but not all of them. Fans might wonder how he’ll balance everything next year.

Djokovic’s Future Plans:
Many fans are eager to see how Djokovic will plan his matches next season. He explained that any decision about small events will depend on how they fit into preparing for Grand Slams since those are top priority.
For instance, he might skip the Madrid Open and instead play at the Italian Open right after it as a warm-up for the French Open. The high altitude of Madrid makes it different from Paris conditions, while Rome is more similar to what he’ll face there.
Rome has been a lucky place for him with better results compared to Madrid; plus, having these two tournaments back-to-back means skipping one could be smart. Right now though, Djokovic is focused on returning to Shanghai Masters where he’s had lots of success before.
“It feels great,” he said about coming back after five years away from China—a place full of happy memories including wins in Beijing and Shanghai.
