Novak Djokovic‘s 2024 hasn’t gone as planned, and even he admits it.
Despite his usual high ambitions, winning 99 ATP titles and 24 Grand Slams, this year was different. Djokovic set his sights on the Olympic gold at the Paris Olympics instead of the usual Grand Slam victories, and he achieved that dream.
His season included reaching the Wimbledon final, Australian Open semi-final, and Shanghai Masters final . Fans might think it’s still a good run despite fewer titles. Yet without another win this year, it could be his least successful season in terms of trophies.

Putting Things in Perspective:
Andy Roddick shared some insights on his podcast about Djokovic’s performance at age 37: “One thing I want to talk about is… Novak coming back and going through a Masters 1000 draw at 37.” Roddick noted how Djokovic himself called this season probably his worst ever during a press conference.
In that same press conference, Djokovic rationally accepted the negative results: “Yeah like listen, this is my worst performing year for a long time… I’m still happy with my gold medal.” His achievements remain impressive despite missing several tournaments.
Roddick pointed out that Djokovic ranks sixth in the ATP Race for 2024 even with limited playtime. His points surpass those of players like Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Compared to most players on tour, he’s still ahead.
“But let’s think about this just for a second,” Roddick said. “Like his worst performing year ever – he made the semifinals of Australia… won Olympic gold.” For many players, that’s an amazing career year!
What do you think? Is it really such a bad year for him?
