Djokovic’s Longest Trophyless Start Since 2005 After Wimbledon Defeat

-

Novak Djokovic reached his 10th Wimbledon final last week but faced a tough challenge.

Carlos Alcaraz defeated him with scores of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. This marked Djokovic’s second consecutive loss in the final to Alcaraz.

Now, Djokovic is without a title in 2024 and has to defend the most points among the top three players for the rest of the season.

Djokovic’s Title Drought:

In 2005, Djokovic had his longest trophyless start to a season. He also had similar dry spells in 2006 and 2018 but managed to win titles by July those years. This year, he has won 23 out of 30 matches so far and even reached a Grand Slam final—a stat that would make most players happy .

But for Djokovic, who always aims for perfection, this isn’t enough. Fans might feel anxious about his current form.

Next month’s North American hard-court swing will be crucial as it’s his first time entering August without an ATP title since his debut season in 2005. His early exits at Indian Wells and the Italian Open came during a period of coaching changes with Marco Panichi and Goran Ivanisevic leaving.

In Rome, an accidental hit from a fan’s water bottle affected him during matches. Many thought he’d bounce back by Roland Garros, but a knee injury forced him out mid-tournament. Despite recovering well enough to reach the Wimbledon final, his movement was clearly restricted.

What do you think? Will Djokovic bounce back soon?
