Mixed Reactions:

Some say players control their schedules, and Alcaraz hasn’t done great at that. He added extra matches by playing in events like the Netflix Slam and Laver Cup. Later this year, he’ll also play in Riyadh, which adds more games he doesn’t need.

Fans might think it’s strange to complain about a busy schedule while adding more games. But two things can be true: he can plan better, but the calendar is still too long. Alcaraz dismissed criticism about playing exhibitions.

Taylor Fritz defended him on social media, saying it’s okay for players to have these opinions.

“I agree that its tough for the tour to shorten the schedule when players will just play Exos to fill the time,” Fritz said. “I’ve seen a lot of people criticizing some of the players asking for a shorter season because they go and play Exos.”

Fritz explained that playing an exhibition match isn’t as tiring as a tour event. “A tour event can be 5+ days of playing all out…VS an exo you show up, have some fun and entertain for a match or two.” He added that exhibitions don’t cause mental stress like competitive matches do.

“You don’t have to all out push your body and there is absolutely 0 mental fatigue or stress,” Fritz continued. “In a lot of ways an exo is a lot like a rest week.”

Fritz believes non-players might not understand this difference fully but expects other players to get it.

What do you think? Is Alcaraz right or should he manage his time better?
