Holger Rune, the young tennis player, has been preparing in Monaco for the upcoming Stockholm Open with the presence of Boris Becker at his practices. Rune has been struggling with his tennis performance lately, losing most of his matches, with his only recent win over Felix Auger-Aliassime. However, this win did not lead to a winning streak as he lost in the next round and was defeated in his Shanghai Masters debut. In preparation for the Stockholm Open, Rune had a productive practice week in Monaco where Becker provided some input. Although it is unclear why Becker joined Rune’s team, Rune spoke about their collaboration before his match against Miomir Kecmanovic.

Reflecting on the training week, Rune expressed, “It was a really good week of training. I have known Boris for a long time. He follows tennis a lot in general and he has written to me a few times. Also when I was a little younger, he gave me some tips and tricks. There he showed that he supports me.” Rune emphasized the valuable difference that Becker brings to his training, stating, “You can feel it. That’s really a big difference. He can feel what I’m feeling. So it’s a different sensation and feeling. It is definitely a good thing to have someone who has tried it himself.”

This is not the first time Rune has sought help outside of his team, as he previously worked with Patrick Mouratoglou for a few months, which had proven to be beneficial. As the defending champion of the Stockholm Open, this tournament holds significant importance for Rune’s aspirations to qualify for the ATP Finals.

Incorporating experienced mentors like Becker into his training regime showcases Rune’s determination to improve his performance and make a comeback in the tennis world. With the Stockholm Open ahead, all eyes will be on Rune as he strives to regain his winning form and successfully defend his title.
