After five years together, Hubert Hurkacz and Craig Boynton have parted ways.
Back in 2019, Hurkacz was struggling with his game. He was 22 and ranked 88th in the world, far from his potential. He needed someone to guide him, and Boynton stepped in to help.
Boynton quickly made a difference. By the end of 2019, Hurkacz’s ranking jumped to 37th. Although 2020 was a tough year due to the COVID-19 pandemic , things started looking up again in 2021.
Successes and Challenges:
In 2021, Hurkacz won his first ATP Masters 1000 trophy in Miami and reached the Wimbledon semi-finals. His ranking soared to world number nine by year’s end, earning him a spot at the ATP Finals for the first time. Over the next three years, he remained a Top 10 player but occasionally slipped out of it.

Despite winning trophies and playing well consistently, he couldn’t take that next big step forward. Whether he had reached his peak or just wasn’t improving as much as expected is hard to say—only Hurkacz knows for sure.
Fans might think this split is unexpected but necessary for growth.
Craig Boynton shared their separation news on Instagram, expressing gratitude for their time together: “What a special ride these past five years have been… sometimes good things must come to an end.” He added that they mutually agreed to part ways: “So grateful for our time together… looking forward to new opportunities.”
Hurkacz has had a solid year with a record of 40-17 so far. He won one trophy in Estoril and reached another final in Halle despite recent knee surgery affecting his performance.
Now it’s time for something new—who will be his next coach? What do you think?
