Hurkacz Adds Two High-Profile Coaches for 2025

-

Hubert Hurkacz has decided to shake things up by bringing in two top-notch coaches, one of whom used to coach Andy Murray. His powerful style on the court hints at potential Grand Slam victories, though his best performance so far was reaching the Wimbledon semifinals in 2021, where he fell to Matteo Berrettini. While Grand Slams have eluded him, Hurkacz has found glory at ATP Masters 1000 tournaments, winning titles like the Miami Open and last year’s Shanghai Masters after a thrilling final against Andrey Rublev.

Hurkacz is gearing up for the 2025 season by participating in the World Tennis League from December 19th to 22nd. He’ll team up with Iga Swiatek for this event. The idea of them playing mixed doubles is quite exciting! They have previously joined forces at the United Cup and are set to represent Team Poland again starting December 27th.

Swiatek’s recent one-month suspension due to a positive test for trimetazidine adds some drama. Her ban was lifted on October 4th after she successfully argued that contamination from non-prescription medicine caused it. Fans might think it’s unfair how doping cases are handled differently for various players.

Coaching Changes:

Amidst all this, Hurkacz hasn’t publicly commented on Swiatek’s situation but seems supportive given their good relationship. Meanwhile, he’s balancing any negative press with positive news—he’s hired Ivan Lendl and Nicolas Massu as his new coaches.

Lendl is famous for coaching Murray three times and helping him achieve significant milestones like winning the US Open in 2012 and Wimbledon in 2013. Under Lendl’s guidance again in June 2016, Murray captured another Wimbledon title and an Olympic gold medal before ending their partnership once more in 2017 due to injury struggles.

Massu may not have reached deep into Grand Slam rounds himself but made headlines by clinching double Olympic golds back in Athens 2004. Known also as Dominic Thiem’s coach until recently, Massu was instrumental during Thiem’s victorious runs at both Indian Wells Open and US Open.

What do you think about these coaching moves? Will they help Hurkacz reach new heights?
