Jannik Sinner Reveals Plan to Play Into His 40s

Jannik Sinner, at just 23, dreams of playing tennis until he’s nearly 40.

The legendary trio—Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer—proved this by thriving well into their 30s.

Stan Wawrinka, who once battled these greats on the court, is still swinging his racket at 39 and has no plans to stop anytime soon. Meanwhile, some younger players like Dominic Thiem have chosen early retirements; he recently stepped away from tennis at the Vienna Open at 31. Nick Kyrgios also hinted he might hang up his racket in his early 30s.

Carlos Alcaraz has expressed a similar sentiment about not playing too long. Yet Sinner seems to be on a different path entirely.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Sinner shared his ambition to play for another decade and a half: “I’m going to play another 15 years until I am 35/40 years old.” He hopes his body can keep up because time flies when you’re having fun.

Every athlete’s journey is uncertain. Recently, Sinner faced a hiccup when he tested positive for clostebol but was cleared by the ITIA. However, WADA appealed this decision which could lead to a two-year suspension from the Tour—a twist that could dramatically alter his career trajectory.

Fans might wonder if this will change how long he stays in the game.

Sinner remains focused on what he can control like rest and recovery rather than worrying about things beyond his influence such as WADA’s decisions.

He’s already planning ahead by organizing his schedule wisely so he can continue competing for many more years. The Big Three have shown him how it’s done with their smart scheduling strategies.

“So we are trying to make all the possible choices,” Sinner says about balancing improvement with winning desires while surrounding himself with supportive people who help him succeed.
