Karen Khachanov made a funny comment about ending his doubles partnership with Taylor Fritz after they didn’t win the 2024 Cinch Championships.
Many top singles players don’t usually play doubles, but sometimes they do to get more practice. The grass season is short, so playing doubles helps them get more time on the grass before big tournaments.
At the recent Cinch Championships, Khachanov and Fritz teamed up for doubles. Jannik Sinner and Hubert Hurkacz also played together in Halle, though their doubles performance wasn’t as good as their singles matches .
Unexpected Success at Queen’s Club
Khachanov and Fritz did surprisingly well at Queen’s Club. They reached the final of the ATP 500 doubles tournament but lost to Martin Venus and Neal Skupski with scores of 6-4, 6-7(5), 5-10.

Despite losing, both were happy with their performance since they didn’t expect to go that far. Their main goal was just to get more practice on grass courts. Fans might think it’s cool how relaxed they were about it all.
Khachanov joked in an interview about how “badly” things went between them and said it would be the first and last time they’d play together:
“I would say absolutely nothing, I think, if I’m honest with you, in front of many witnesses… it’s the first and the last time that we [him and Taylor Fritz] play together.”
Even though Khachanov plays doubles quite often, he might team up with Fritz again someday. Fritz doesn’t usually play doubles but has good skills for it.
What do you think? Should they give it another shot?
