Nick Kyrgios is incredibly talented but has faced many personal struggles.
Early in his career, he made headlines more for his off-court antics than his tennis skills. Despite showing promise, controversies and personal issues overshadowed his talent.
Over time, Kyrgios battled these issues, sometimes winning and sometimes losing. It wasn’t until recently that he took control of his life, which improved his tennis game.
Turning Point in His Career
His 2022 Wimbledon run was a clear sign of what he could achieve. Fans were thrilled to see him play at such a high level. He admitted that taking his career seriously was key to this success.

“I used to struggle a lot, early parts of my career, 2019, obviously self-harming and went through that stage when I was suicidal. I feel like I was able to learn so much through that and make it out of it and still play at absolute top level.”
Kyrgios now sees these struggles as opportunities for growth. They helped him understand himself better and gave him the ability to help others. This perspective brings him joy today.
“Everyone goes through these problems; they have issues they need help with and I was one of those people, so you have to take care of yourself… I am not perfect and you look at some other tennis players; they were pictured to be gods, super-playing kind of perfect. I have been a mess basically my entire life and I am still able to come out and help people endure my way and have some fun.”
Watching Kyrgios mature has been satisfying for fans who longed for this change. Seeing him play some of his best tennis has been even more rewarding.
“So I hope that ‘Good Trouble’ and all these amazing things that I am doing off the court can give other people hope that if I am able to do it, then you can do it as well.”
John McEnroe once told Kyrgios to sort out his life because few players impact the sport like he does. It’s unfortunate he’s dealing with an injury now.
