Kyrgios, Ruud Bond in Abu Dhabi Despite Past Rivalry

-

Nick Kyrgios is making headlines again, but this time it’s about burying old feuds – well, most of them anyway.

The outspoken Aussie tennis star has been throwing shade at Jannik Sinner lately, but he’s surprisingly patched things up with former rival Casper Ruud at the World Tennis League.

It’s been a long two years since we’ve really seen Kyrgios in action, aside from a quick appearance at Stuttgart in 2023. Now he’s gearing up for something pretty special – he’ll be playing doubles with Novak Djokovic at the Brisbane International to kick off 2024.

But there’s another match-up Kyrgios is itching for. He wants to face Sinner at the Australian Open, and he’s not planning to play nice. Kyrgios has been particularly vocal about Sinner since the Italian tested positive for clostebol at Indian Wells.

That doping case is still up in the air. The World Anti-Doping Agency has appealed it, and we won’t hear anything until after February 11, 2025.

“I’ll show him no respect,” Kyrgios declared about a potential Sinner showdown at the Australian Open. He’s even promised to turn the home crowd against the Italian star.

It’s funny how things change in tennis. Kyrgios used to hate Djokovic, but now they’re buddies and doubles partners. He had an even bigger grudge against Rafael Nadal back in the day.

Then there’s Casper Ruud. Kyrgios once said watching paint dry would be more exciting than Ruud’s matches. Ouch.

But something changed when they faced off at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown. Now they’re actually getting along.

The pair even teamed up for doubles at the World Tennis League, beating Sumit Nagal and Jordan Thompson. They seemed to be having a blast together.

Ruud couldn’t help but laugh about it during the match: “When we started the match we said, you know, who would’ve thought, us playing doubles together ever…”

Kyrgios took to Instagram afterward, posting a picture with Ruud and writing: “Funny how things do a 360. What we calling this duo @Casperruud. Absolute pleasure playing alongside you.”

Maybe there’s hope for the Sinner situation after all? Though we probably shouldn’t hold our breath on that one just yet.
