Murray’s Late Decision on Wimbledon Appearance

-

Andy Murray has shared his thoughts on playing at Wimbledon this year, feeling he has earned the right to decide last minute.

He plans to retire from tennis this summer and was expected to play his final Wimbledon starting July 1st.

However, a back injury forced him to quit his second-round match at Queen’s Club , putting his Wimbledon participation in doubt.

Injury and Surgery:

Recently, news broke that Murray would need back surgery and thus withdrew from Wimbledon. His mom, Judy, was upset with the media for leaking private medical details about her son.

Last Saturday, the former World No. 1 had back surgery and later updated fans on his recovery process through The Guardian. He called it “complicated” but is happy with how things are going.

“The rate that I’m improving just now, if that was to continue then an extra 72 to 96 hours makes a huge difference,” said Murray. “It’s complicated because I want to play at Wimbledon one more time.”

Fans might feel hopeful yet anxious about this news.

The draw ceremony for Wimbledon is set for June 28th. Withdrawing early is seen as a good gesture since it allows another player a chance in the main draw. But Murray wants to wait until the last moment before deciding if he’ll play or not.

“I want that opportunity to play the tournament,” he explained. “Some people might think withdrawing late isn’t right, but it happens every week on tour.”

He added: “The winner of Queen’s will pull out of Eastbourne when the draw has been done and is clearly totally fit. But I feel like I deserve the chance to try again at Wimbledon.”

What do you think? Should he wait till the last minute or withdraw early?
