Nadal Considered for 2024 Davis Cup Final 8: Captain Ferrer

-

David Ferrer announced that Rafael Nadal might join the Spanish team for the 2024 Davis Cup Final 8.

The final stage of the Davis Cup will be held in Malaga, Spain, just like previous years. Spain has struggled to win despite being the host.

One reason is that top players like Carlos Alcaraz and Nadal haven’t always been available.

Even though Nadal’s recent performance hasn’t been great, his presence could still boost the team. He recently said he has no goals for this year, making it unlikely he’ll play. However, Ferrer remains hopeful and said:

Possible Inclusion of Nadal:

“I have spoken to Rafa… And why not? There is still time, I will speak to him and we will decide what we will do. The important thing is that he is well and, if he wants to, he will be in good condition.”

When asked why Nadal isn’t playing now, Ferrer explained that Nadal needed rest after the Olympics.

Alcaraz helped Spain secure a spot in Malaga by leading them past other teams. Fans might think it’s a good idea for him to take a break too.

“It was not his turn; he needed days of rest and to be with his family and recharge his batteries. I will attend some tournaments and decide on the team.”

“The good thing is that I have great players and the bad thing is that there are always some who have to be left out, but as of today I don’t have a 100% clear team. What I do know is that this week I have been immensely happy to see them compete and the great team atmosphere they have had.”

Alcaraz’s participation in Final 8 is also uncertain due to its proximity to ATP Finals. If he’s worn out from those matches, he might skip Davis Cup.

Jannik Sinner managed both events last year but Alcaraz’s health issues could make it tough for him.

If Alcaraz can’t play, Spain’s chances drop significantly—unless Nadal steps up as their hero in Malaga.

What do you think? Should Nadal try playing or keep resting?
