Nadal Joins Ruud in Bastad Open Doubles

-

Rafael Nadal is set to play doubles at the 2024 Bastad Open with Casper Ruud.

A few weeks back, Nadal confirmed he’d be at the Nordea Open in Bastad, an ATP 250 clay event right after Wimbledon. This is important because the Olympics will also be on clay, so players are using these events for practice.

The 14-time Roland Garros winner isn’t the only big name; former champion Ruud will also compete. They know each other well since Ruud trained at Nadal’s Academy years ago.

Practice and Preparation:

Years ago, they even played exhibition matches in South America, which Ruud later regretted as it messed up his offseason and led to a poor year professionally. Now they’re teaming up again in Bastad to help Nadal get back into doubles tennis.

Nadal’s last notable doubles match was with Federer at the 2022 Laver Cup, Federer’s final professional appearance. Fans might think this new partnership could bring some exciting moments.

Nadal plans to partner with Carlos Alcaraz for the Olympics but chose Ruud for Bastad to get more doubles experience. His fellow Spaniard probably couldn’t make it to Sweden, so playing with Ruud made sense for him.

Nadal has been practicing on clay lately, showing he’s serious about doing well in Paris.

What do you think about this new team-up?
