Nishikori Withdraws from Eastbourne Before Wimbledon

-

Kei Nishikori has pulled out of the 2024 Eastbourne International, casting doubt on his Wimbledon appearance.

It’s been a while since he played consistently. The last time he competed in all four major tournaments was in 2021, but he didn’t get past the fourth round in any of them.

Before that, in 2019, he reached the quarter-finals in three Grand Slams. From 2014 to 2019, Nishikori made it to at least one Grand Slam quarter-final each year.

Despite being a steady performer for years, injuries have plagued him since those three quarter-final runs in 2019. He hasn’t been able to compete regularly on the ATP Tour due to these health issues.

Recent Struggles and Comebacks:

At 34, Nishikori is still fighting hard. He showed his skills last year by winning an ATP Challenger title at Palmas Del Mar. But soon after that victory, he got injured again and this season hasn’t gone well either.

He was set to play Mariano Navone at the Eastbourne International but withdrew just hours before their match without any explanation. This leaves fans unsure about his participation at Wimbledon this year.

Fans might be feeling anxious as they hope to see him back on court soon.

The Eastbourne event was supposed to be his final prep before Wimbledon from July 1st to 14th. Though he’s still listed for Wimbledon, this recent withdrawal makes things uncertain.

Nishikori’s clean hitting style is missed by many fans who would love to see him return at SW19.

What do you think? Will Nishikori make it back for Wimbledon?
