Roger Federer is getting restless in retirement and wants to return to tennis courts around the world.
Millions of fans fell in love with tennis because of the Swiss Maestro. He’s one of the biggest reasons the sport is so popular today, and after he hung up his racket at the 2022 Laver Cup, many worried they’d never see him play again.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion has hinted several times about organizing exhibition matches, but it’s been nearly three years since he retired, and fans are still waiting.

Sure, Federer has shown up at promotional events hitting balls with kids, but that’s not what fans are dreaming of. They want to see him in a proper exhibition match, maybe against his longtime rival Rafael Nadal.
Now it looks like the wait might finally be over.
In a recent interview with TNT Sports, Federer admitted he’s itching to get back on court.
“Honestly, I would love to play some more tennis again. Enough with the golf already for the moment now, I’ve played so much,” he said. “Seriously, I would love to start playing two or three times a week and hopefully get myself back on the exhibition court and hopefully maybe fill up a few nice stadiums around the world.”
He doesn’t have specific plans yet, but the desire is definitely there.
“I have no plans yet, but I know that the training part, I miss it a little bit because I haven’t played a whole lot since I retired, because my body needed a break, and also my mind a little bit.”
Federer also talked about his beloved Laver Cup, which will be hosted by Team World in 2025 at San Francisco’s Chase Center.
“For the Laver Cup to come back to America is always great. We were in Chicago and Boston, two very successful Laver Cups, and now we’re going to San Francisco.”
The tennis legend has already checked out the venue and was impressed.
“It’s an amazing stadium, where the Golden State Warriors play. I’ve been there, and I thought it was incredible. I wish I could play this year, but those days are over. I really enjoyed it as a fan.”
Ticket sales are apparently going well, which doesn’t surprise Federer.
“From what I’m hearing, ticket sales are going really well, and I think the Bay Area will embrace tennis,” he explained. “They don’t see much tennis overall, and some of the greatest players on the planet are coming. It’s really exciting.”
Last year’s event in Berlin was a huge hit, and Federer expects nothing less from San Francisco.
“Berlin was a huge success in Germany. I was there last year and had the best time. I’m sure San Francisco will be equally successful.”
