Rublev’s Meltdowns & ‘Craziness’ Analyzed by Osaka’s Coach

-

Andrey Rublev often struggles with intense emotions on the tennis court. Off the court, he’s a friendly guy with many pals, like Daniil Medvedev, whose child he is godfather to.

But during matches, Rublev can become a different person entirely. He sometimes has fierce outbursts that are among the most dramatic in tennis today.

At one Paris Masters match against Francisco Cerundolo, Rublev repeatedly hit his knee with his racket until it bled. Fans were worried about him after witnessing this troubling scene.

Emotional Struggles and Tournament Pressure

Some think the pressure of trying to make it into the ATP Finals played a part in this incident. After losing at Paris Masters, Rublev entered Moselle Open but later withdrew when Novak Djokovic‘s exit secured his spot in Turin. This decision upset Lorenzo Sonego and sparked criticism from fans who felt let down by his withdrawal.

Sadly, even with an opportunity at the ATP Finals, Rublev couldn’t make much of it. He lost straight sets to both Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz. Fans might wonder if keeping cool on court could help him win more big matches.

Patrick Mouratoglou believes it’s not so simple for Rublev to just control himself better. While acknowledging that these meltdowns can hurt him, he also thinks some level of intensity helps bring out Rublev’s best game during competitions like UTS Grand Final in London last year.

“I think he had some tough moments this year,” Mouratoglou said. “He struggled to control himself…he was so ashamed.”

“But when he’s in the heat of the moment,” he continued, “it’s not really him—it’s just too intense for him.”

Mouratoglou added that finding balance is tricky: “If he tries too hard to keep calm because he’s afraid of going overboard, then it’s hard for him to play well.”

Rublev admits he’s getting professional help for these issues now. Hopefully soon he’ll find a way forward without harming himself again during those heated moments on court! What do you think?
