Holger Rune compared himself to Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner as potential successors to the Big Three.
The trio of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer set the standard for greatness with 66 Grand Slams between them. Federer retired two years ago, Nadal is expected to retire by the end of 2024, leaving Djokovic as the last active member of this legendary group.
With these icons stepping back, Alcaraz and Sinner have risen to prominence, each winning a Grand Slam this season. Although Rune hasn’t snagged a Grand Slam yet, he did win the Paris Masters in late 2022 .
New Faces on the Horizon:
At just 21 years old, Rune is seen as a future star. People are buzzing about who will take over from Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic once they’re all retired. Early signs suggest that Alcaraz, Sinner, and Rune could be their successors.

Rune finds it “exciting” that people are talking about them as the next Big Three but admits they aren’t at the same level yet. He said:
“We cannot compare ourselves at all yet to Novak (Djokovic), Rafa (Nadal) and Roger (Federer). But the fact that people are starting to talk about the Next Big 3 is exciting. It’s what makes tennis bigger, exciting. Rivalries are very important. It’s interesting to have all characters; that’s why hopefully they’ll be calling us the next Big Three. I’m myself and I’m happy to be me.”
