Rune’s Coaching Turmoil: Christensen Joins Team Again

-

Holger Rune has been switching coaches a lot for someone so young, and he’s done it again before the Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia. This event, running from October 16th to 19th, is not just any exhibition; it’s a big one with stars like Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Rune himself. With such famous players participating, people were already paying attention. But then Rafael Nadal announced his retirement plans .

Nadal is set to finish his career at the Davis Cup Finals next month. The Six Kings Slam might be one of his last tournaments unless he takes a wild card for the Paris Masters—a title he’s never claimed. Fans are buzzing about this tournament on social media. Some folks are wondering why Rune is there since they think he hasn’t achieved as much as the others yet.

Rune’s Coaching Carousel:

Despite being talented, Rune has had a tough time in 2024 and hasn’t shown his best form consistently. Many believe that all these coaching changes aren’t helping him either. It’s like he’s on a merry-go-round with coaches—hiring them, letting them go, then bringing them back again! In summer 2022, he teamed up with Patrick Mouratoglou (who once coached Serena Williams), but things have been rocky since then.

Rune switched between Lars Christensen and Mouratoglou during 2023; Christensen was with him at Wimbledon while Mouratoglou showed up at the US Open. By September 2023, Christensen was named sole coach until Boris Becker joined in October—and then Christensen was out by November! Severin Luthi came onboard alongside Becker for 2024.

Fans might think all these changes are dizzying!

But wait—Becker and Luthi were gone by February when Mouratoglou returned yet again! Kenneth Carlsen also joined as part of the team before their partnership ended on July 29th. Carlsen took over until Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh became part of Rune’s squad during the Asian swing.

Most players don’t change coaches this often in their entire careers! Yet here we are: Lars Christensen is back once more for the Six Kings Slam according to Sport TV2 reports—and both seem thrilled about it!

“I am happy to work with Lars again,” said Rune about their renewed partnership after recent training sessions improved his serve significantly.

Christensen added: “I have known Holger since he was a little boy with big dreams… Everyone knows Holger’s huge potential.”

What do you think? Is all this coaching chaos worth it?
