Ruud May Withdraw from Cincinnati Due to Health Issues

-

Casper Ruud might miss his match against Felix Auger-Aliassime at the 2024 Cincinnati Open due to health problems.

Ruud has had a strong season with some great results, but his chances at Cincinnati don’t look good. He made it to the quarter-finals in 2021, but this year he’s been struggling with his health.

He went to Montreal hoping to forget about Paris. At the Paris Olympics, he aimed for a medal but didn’t succeed.

Health Struggles:

In Montreal, Ruud won against James Duckworth but had to withdraw from facing Sebastian Korda because of an illness. This illness turned out to be the flu, which has kept him bedridden for five days.

Fans might feel worried about Ruud’s chances given his current condition.

Despite feeling slightly better on Wednesday and trying to practice, he wasn’t too hopeful about playing well. “There have been some tough days where I have been bedridden,” he said on Wednesday. “I will try to test in training how it can go, but I don’t have too high hopes.”

He plans another practice session on Thursday before deciding whether or not he’ll play against Auger-Aliassime. Even if he does play, it’s unlikely he’ll be at his best since he’s lost both matches against the Canadian this year.

They’ve faced each other eight times with a tied score of 4-4 overall, but Felix has won their recent encounters. Given Ruud’s cautious approach towards his career choices, he’ll likely do what’s best for him.

Even top athletes like Ruud can get drained by something like the flu. He might skip Cincinnati and focus on preparing for the US Open instead.

What do you think? Should he rest up or give it a shot?
