Jannik Sinner recently found himself in the middle of a heated debate about the ATP Tour schedule. Many players have been vocal about the demanding calendar, fearing it could lead to more injuries.
In recent months, both male and female tennis stars have voiced their concerns. Iga Swiatek was one of the loudest critics on the WTA Tour, and she paid a price for it by losing her World No. 1 ranking due to skipping some tournaments.
On the ATP side, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev also spoke out against the packed schedule. Yet, Sinner had a different perspective: “You don’t have to play all the tournaments.”

Fans might wonder if this debate will change anything soon. Ugo Humbert, ranked 16th globally, shared his thoughts during an interview at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Frankfurt. He expressed frustration with how things are managed, especially with Masters 1000 events now stretched over two weeks.
“There are too many things,” he said candidly. “They never go in players’ direction… It’s tiring.”
Humbert argued that while longer tournaments promise more earnings, they also bring higher costs for players. He noted that injuries seem to be on the rise too: “We earn more money but it’s not true; we have twice as many expenses.”
He also responded to Sinner’s comments about choosing not to play every event: “When you’re 50th or 60th in the world, you try to play as many events as you can.” For lower-ranked players like him, skipping tournaments isn’t really an option if they want to improve their rankings.
“We need to rethink things,” Humbert concluded. “It’s exhausting… After a while, it’s just not possible.”
So what do you think? Is there a better way for tennis schedules?
