Jannik Sinner‘s position at the top of the tennis world grew even stronger after his performance at the Shanghai Masters, according to the latest ATP rankings. His remarkable season saw another highlight when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final of this major tournament.
Throughout this year, Sinner has been a force on hardcourts, winning six out of seven titles on that surface and one on grass at Halle Open. His victory in Shanghai marks his third Masters-1000 title for 2024, following wins at both the Miami Open and Canadian Open where he bested Grigor Dimitrov and Frances Tiafoe in those finals.
Fans might think Sinner’s rise was inevitable given his stellar performances. Besides these achievements, he also claimed Grand Slam victories at both the Australian Open and US Open. With Alcaraz losing to Tomas Machac in Shanghai, it was already certain that Sinner would finish the year as world No. 1.

Rankings Shake-Up:
Sinner’s lead grew after Shanghai, boasting 11,920 ranking points—4,800 more than Alcaraz who sits second. Although he’s set to defend many points soon, it’s unlikely anyone will surpass him due to this commanding lead.
Despite Djokovic’s runner-up finish in Shanghai with great support from fans there, it didn’t change his ranking; he’s still fourth behind Sinner, Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev. Meanwhile Hubert Hurkacz had to withdraw from defending his title due to a knee injury; dropping last year’s 1,000 points pushed him down from No. 8 to No. 12.
In an unexpected twist Alex de Minaur climbed into the Top 10 despite not playing because of an injury—rising from No. 11 to No. 9—and Grigor Dimitrov held onto tenth place. Tomas Machac impressed by reaching semifinals before falling against Sinner; this effort moved him up eight spots from No. 33 to No. 25.
Jakub Mensik also made significant progress: last week’s quarterfinalist jumped from No. 65 all way up until currently sitting comfortably around spot fifty-one! If only he’d managed tighter match versus Djokovic… Other notable changes included David Goffin climbing thirteen places after beating Zverev during quarterfinals (now ranked fifty-three) while Sebastian Korda slipped three positions landing twenty-second overall instead!
