Sinner Downplays First Win as No. 1

-

Jannik Sinner is back on the courts at the 2024 Halle Open and won his first match.

After Roland Garros, he became world number one because Djokovic didn’t reach the final, and Sinner made it to the semi-final. This result gave him a lot of points, enough to surpass Djokovic.

Now in his second week as number one, Sinner isn’t too focused on this title. He just wants to play without pain and win matches for himself .

He said, “I just love to play tennis. That’s it. It’s a great number for sure. But In my mind I know I can still improve. I was looking forward to coming back to such a special place. This tournament believed in me.”

Special Occasion

“They gave me a wildcard 5 years ago,” he added. “This is a special occasion for me. I’m just happy to step on court feeling healthy. I had problems with the hip. So, for me, it’s more important that I can play without pain. It went well today.”

Sinner’s match wasn’t flawless; he lost the first set even though he played better overall but regained form in the next two sets and won eventually.

Fans might think it’s amazing how he’s handling his return so calmly.

Though he’s expected to do well on grass this season, especially compared to Carlos Alcaraz who won Wimbledon last year.

What do you think about Sinner’s comeback?
