Jannik Sinner is out of the Canadian Open after a tough match against Andrey Rublev.
Last year, he won the title in Toronto, which alternates with Montreal each year. This was his first ATP-1000 level win, achieved by beating Alex de Minaur in the final.
It’s also his first tournament since Wimbledon, missing the Paris Olympics due to tonsillitis .
Despite having a good reason for skipping the Olympics, some people criticized him. Sinner defended himself against these unfair attacks.

Match Highlights:
Sinner started strong with two straight-set wins over Borna Coric and Alejandro Tabilo. Rublev also had easy wins against Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Brandon Nakashima before their clash.
Rain delayed their match in Montreal, but once it began, Rublev took control of the first set. He broke Sinner’s serve in the fourth game and won 6-3.
Another rain delay happened but Sinner came back stronger. He dominated the second set with five consecutive games and won 6-1. At this point, fans thought he would easily reach the semifinals.
The deciding set started intensely with Rublev saving three break points. But then Sinner showed signs of physical struggle, clutching his left ankle and limping between points.
Fans might think it’s sad to see him struggle like this after such a promising start.
Playing two matches in one day due to rain delays likely contributed to his issues. In the end, Rublev didn’t have to be at his best to win 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 and move on to the semifinals.
