Jannik Sinner‘s clay court plans for 2025 are changing a bit.
After an amazing 2024 season, Sinner topped it off by winning the ATP Finals, where he beat Taylor Fritz in straight sets. Earlier in the year, he also grabbed his first Grand Slam wins at the Australian Open and US Open, along with three Masters 1000 titles in Miami, Cincinnati, and Shanghai.
These victories made him the quickest to secure the year-end No. 1 spot since Djokovic did it back in 2015. However, one area where Sinner didn’t claim a title was during the clay court season. He came close but lost a nail-biting Monte-Carlo Masters semifinal to Stefanos Tsitsipas with scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Clay Court Challenges:
Sinner’s run at the Madrid Open ended early due to a hip injury that forced him to withdraw before facing Felix Auger-Aliassime. He also missed out on playing at the Italian Open but returned just in time for the French Open. In Paris, he took over Djokovic’s No. 1 ranking after Djokovic pulled out due to a knee problem.
Despite reaching two semifinals and nearly making it to his first French Open final against Alcaraz in a five-set thriller, Sinner finished without any clay titles for that year. Fans might think he’s still had an incredible season despite this hiccup.
His coach Darren Cahill hinted that changes were coming based on what they learned during this breakthrough year about what works best for him as world No.1.
Cahill mentioned that transitioning from hard courts at Miami to clay at Monte Carlo was too quick and didn’t allow enough recovery or practice time on clay surfaces.
Sinner is expected to skip Monte Carlo Masters next time around—a non-mandatory event—and instead start his clay journey at Munich Open which will be upgraded from ATP 250 status up into ATP500 territory by then! This tournament happens right after Monte Carlo week when Barcelona’s open takes place too!
But whether or not we see him compete depends upon CAS’s decision regarding ongoing doping case proceedings against our star player… What do you think about all these changes?
