Sinner Tops ATP Rankings After Cincinnati Title Win

-

Jannik Sinner secured the World No. 1 spot before the US Open by winning his first Cincinnati Open title.

He beat Frances Tiafoe in the final, adding 990 points to his total and extending his lead over Novak Djokovic by 2300 points. With Djokovic needing to defend 2000 points at the New York major, Sinner’s top ranking is safe for now.

Djokovic hasn’t played since the Olympics, but thanks to Sinner’s semifinal win over Alexander Zverev in Cincinnati, he will be seeded second at the US Open.

Rankings Shake-Up:

Carlos Alcaraz remains World No. 3 despite losing to Gael Monfils last week. Zverev stays fourth while Daniil Medvedev, who hasn’t won a title in 2024, holds fifth place.

Andrey Rublev is closing in on Medvedev from sixth place. Alex de Minaur keeps his Top 10 spot as Stefanos Tsitsipas didn’t perform well in Cincinnati.

Outside the top ranks, Ben Shelton moved up to 13th, just ahead of Taylor Fritz at 12th by a few points heading into Flushing Meadows. Tommy Paul dropped to 14th while Holger Rune rose to 15th after nearly making it to the Cincinnati final.

Portugal’s Nuno Borges achieved a new high ranking of No.35 but won’t be seeded in New York yet; Adrian Mannarino dropped out of the Top 40 after ten straight losses.

American teen Alex Michelsen is close to breaking into the Top 50 (52nd) after three wins in Cincinnati, including two from qualifying rounds. Roman Safiullin re-entered the Top 60 (59th) by winning last week’s Cary Challenger.

Damir Dzumhur made a big leap within the Top100 by climbing nineteen places to rank eighty-first after winning an ATP second-tier title in Santo Domingo; Laslo Djere returned to rank one hundred following a semifinal finish at that same Challenger event.
