Sinner’s Coaches Overlooked for ATP Coach of the Year Despite Record-Breaking Year

-

Jannik Sinner‘s coaches didn’t make it to the ATP Coach of the Year shortlist this time. Since 2016, the ATP has been awarding the best coach each year, with Magnus Norman being the first winner after Stan Wawrinka’s US Open victory. Marian Vajda and Juan Carlos Ferrero have also claimed this honor in past years.

Last year, Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi took home the award thanks to Sinner’s fantastic season, including a Canadian Open win and a Davis Cup triumph with Italy. Goran Ivanisevic not being chosen last year caused quite a stir due to Djokovic’s stellar performance that included three Grand Slam wins. Djokovic himself was puzzled by this decision .

Fans might think it’s unfair that Sinner’s team is missing from the list despite his amazing achievements this year. He snagged his first Grand Slam titles at both the Australian Open and US Open, along with three Masters 1000 victories. Plus, he had an incredible run at the ATP Finals.

Coach of The Year Controversy:

Sinner helped Italy secure back-to-back Davis Cup titles in 2024 and became one of the fastest players to lock down a year-end No. 1 ranking since Djokovic in 2015. While Cahill and Vagnozzi were left out of consideration for Coach of the Year, some speculate it might be due to controversies involving Sinner’s former fitness coach related to banned substances.

Despite not being involved in any wrongdoing themselves, Cahill and Vagnozzi may have been excluded from nominations because of potential backlash concerns from ATP officials.

In contrast, Jack Draper’s coach James Trotman made it onto this year’s list after guiding Draper through an impressive season with victories at Vienna and Stuttgart Opens plus reaching US Open semis! Michael Russell also got nominated for helping Taylor Fritz reach new heights like making it into US Open final!

Emmanuel Plangue coached Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard from outside Top 200 all way up No.31 by end-2024; he too earns nomination alongside Brad Stine (Tommy Paul) & Xavier Malisse (Alexei Popyrin). Paul’s career-high rank No12 speaks volumes about Stine’s influence while Popyrin shocked everyone beating Djokovic during Canadian Open title run!

So what do you think? Should Jannik Sinner’s coaches have made it into consideration despite everything?
