Two tennis stars have already earned over $5 million in prize money this year: Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner.
For players ranked around 100th place, prize money is crucial, but top players mostly earn through sponsorships.
Just recently, Sinner secured a $150 million deal with Nike, showing how little prize money matters to him compared to brand deals with Gucci, Formula 1, Lavazza, Rolex, and others.
Big Earnings from Sponsorships:
However, winning prize money still feels good for athletes because it means they are winning matches. On the ATP Tour right now, Sinner is leading in earnings. Thanks to his semi-final run at Roland Garros where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz, he’s made $5,162,330 this year—$5,137,734 from singles and $24,596 from doubles.
Close behind him is Alexander Zverev with $4,632,574 and French Open champion Alcaraz with $4,517,181 so far in 2024.
On the WTA Tour side of things there’s a bigger gap between the leader and others. Swiatek tops not just among women but overall with $6,683,749 earned this year after winning Madrid Open Italian Open in Rome and Roland Garros.
Fans might think these numbers are mind-blowing!
Following Swiatek is Aryna Sabalenka who has made $3;714;831 this year. The recent French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini sits third on the WTA list with earnings of $2;799;735.
Swiatek’s total earnings surpass those of both Sabalenka and Paolini combined! What do you think about these huge amounts?
