Tomic Sets Record for Fastest ATP Challenger Final Loss

-

Bernard Tomic had a really tough day in his recent ATP Challenger Tour final. Over the years, he has struggled, even though he once showed great promise as a tennis player from Australia.

Back in 2011, Tomic made it to the Wimbledon quarterfinals at just 18 and gave Novak Djokovic a run for his money. He went on to win four ATP titles and reached No. 17 in the world rankings by January 2016.

But things didn’t go as planned for Tomic. His attitude and lack of hard work held him back . He admits he could have won a Grand Slam if he’d put in more effort and now wants to return to the Top 50.

Challenges and Setbacks:

Tomic hasn’t played in a Grand Slam main draw since the Australian Open in 2021, showing how far he’s fallen. By the end of 2022, his ranking had plummeted to No. 462, but he managed to climb back up to No. 207—still far from his goal.

His unpredictable behavior might stop him from reaching that goal again. In August, he got kicked out of a match for heckling an opponent who beat him earlier.

Fans might wonder if he’ll ever get back on top again.

Recently, Tomic made it to the final of the Fairfield Challenger but lost badly to Learner Tien with scores of 0-6, 1-6 in just 39 minutes—the shortest ATP Challenger Tour final ever! The fans probably felt like they wasted their time watching that match.

Tomic couldn’t break serve once and was broken five times himself during this match. He only hit first serves successfully about half the time and barely won any points on Tien’s second serve!

Surprisingly though, this wasn’t his worst defeat; that title goes to when Jarkko Nieminen beat him in just 28 minutes at Miami Open back in ’14—the fastest loss recorded on ATP Tour!

Despite these setbacks at age thirty-one getting into Top Hundred or Fifty seems tough yet possible if determination remains strong enough! What do you think?
